Pormenores del torneo

El Torneo Pedro Luna 2026 tendrá actividad durante dos fines de semana consecutivos de octubre en Squash Delta.

La primera etapa se realizará del 2 al 4 de octubre, con las categorías 5a Fuerza, 3a Fuerza e Infantil. Una semana después, del 9 al 11 de octubre, entrarán en acción las categorías 4a Fuerza, 2a Fuerza y Beginners.

La convocatoria contempla premios en artículos deportivos y una cuota de inscripción de $750 pesos, que incluye la playera del torneo.

Bajo el lema “El squash nos une”, el torneo se suma a las actividades del World Squash Day y a la celebración de una nueva etapa para nuestro deporte rumbo a su debut olímpico en Los Ángeles 2028.

La competencia contará con un formato de handicap, al menos dos partidos garantizados por jugador, Torneo de Plata y una final especial entre ganadores. Además de trofeos y raquetas, el primer lugar obtendrá una pantalla de 55 pulgadas.

La inscripción garantiza un mínimo de 2 partidos por jugador.

También se disputará un Torneo de Plata, dando oportunidad de continuar en competencia a los participantes de acuerdo con el formato establecido por la organización.

Como cierre se realizará una Final Especial entre los ganadores de Caras de Lotería, Handicap y Torneo de Plata, cuyo campeón recibirá una raqueta como premio.

El formato contempla al menos dos encuentros para cada participante, además de Torneo de Plata y una Final Especial. La convocatoria combina así competencia, premios y convivencia bajo el concepto “Más Squash, Más Amigos”.

El torneo, presentado por CUPRA Garage López Mateos, reunirá jugadores de diferentes niveles y edades, desde categorías competitivas hasta Novatos, Juvenil y Masters. La competencia contará con una bolsa de $20,000 MXN para Primera Fuerza, además de raquetas y otros premios.

Como parte de la inscripción, los participantes recibirán playera del torneo y tendrán acceso a la comida de clausura.

Eligible athletes can now secure their places at the World Masters Games 2027 Kansai, as early entry officially opened from Wednesday 14 January 01:00 (GMT).

Squash is scheduled to take place at both the StandOut KYOTO and Kyoto Terrsa in Kyoto City, Japan, between Thursday 20 May and Saturday 27 May.

Those eligible for early entry will be able to enter using the individual URLS issued, with access given to those who have participated in past competitions, registered for the WMG e-mail magazine, and individuals who received a refund for the cancellation of the 2021 event, while general entry will open from March 2nd, 2026, from 01:00 a.m. (GMT).

The World Masters Games 2027 Kansai, which was originally scheduled for 2021 was delayed due to the pandemic, with the Games returning in 2025 when it was hosted in Chinese Taipei.

The 11th edition of the Games will feature 59 events across 35 sports and will be hosted in Kansai, Japan between Friday, May 14, 2027, and Sunday, May 30, 2027.

Both open and recreational squash competitions will be available in the Men and Women divisions, with selected age categories as follows: 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+, 75+, 80+.

The open class are for those who have participated in national championships and open competitions, while the recreation competition level is for those who have participated in friendship level competitions.

Athletes looking to register for the squash at the World Masters Games 2027 in Kansai, Japan will have to be 35 years of age or older as of May 19, 2027 (those born before May 19, 1992) and will require a registration (SPIN) with World Squash.

General entry applications for the World Masters Games will close on Sunday, February 28, 2027.

World Juniors are held annually and see the world’s best squash players aged under 19 compete to be crowned world champions. At last week’s edition of the championships, India’s Anahat Singh and Egypt’s Mohamad Zakaria won the individual titles, while Egypt won both the men’s and women’s team titles.

Squash is one of the fastest growing sports in China. China has established and continuously refined a comprehensive squash competition system encompassing professional tournaments, youth events and mass participation activities at international, national, provincial and municipal levels. Numbers of participants in youth squash competitions have repeatedly hit new highs. Over the past three years, the number of junior squash athletes in China has grown by more than 50% year on year; the total number of squash courts nationwide rose from 400 in 2024 to over 700 by 2026.

The 2027 World Juniors will be hosted by China Squash’s state-of-the-art new National Squash Team Training Base, the Linjiangzhiyuan Training Base, located in Shuangliu District, Chengdu, China. The base, completed in 2026, covers 442 Chinese Mu (approximately 73 acres), boasting 22 World-Squash-certified courts in total – 16 all-glass courts and 6 panel -wall courts constructed by CGG, seating capacity for 800 spectators, a 155-unit athlete apartment complex, as well as an on-site hotel and restaurant.

Although next year will be the first time the Chinese mainland has hosted World Juniors, the country has a long-standing pedigree in squash, having hosted the Women’s World Squash Team Championships in 2018, the 2024 Asian Squash Team Championships, and major squash events including the Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023 and The World Games in Chengdu in 2025.

As the hometown of giant pandas, Chengdu boasts abundant natural and cultural attractions such as Shu Brocade, the Sanxingdui Ruins and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. All participating teams will have the opportunity to experience the city’s profound history, splendid culture and stunning natural scenery during the championships.

World Squash President Zena Wooldridge said: “World Squash is delighted to partner with the Chinese Squash Association to deliver the 2027 World Squash Junior Championships in the magnificent new squash venue in Chengdu.

Malta’s state-of-the-art National Squash Centre in the Marsa Sports Centre, which was completed in 2025, will host the squash competition.

Squash is one of eight sports that will be contested at the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games, alongside Athletics and Para Athletics, Netball, Sailing, Swimming and Para Swimming, Triathlon, Water Polo, and Weightlifting.

It is an exciting time for squash in Malta, with the recent opening of the National Squash Centre and Olympic-Solidarity-funded coaching programme among initiatives supporting a healthy grassroots scene.

First staged in Edinburgh in 2000, the Commonwealth Youth Games were created to provide unforgettable international competition for young athletes across the Commonwealth and to provide a pathway to support progression to the senior ranks. Since then, more than 6,000 athletes have competed across the Games’ history.

Malta is expecting to host approximately 1,200 athletes, aged 14-18 from across the Commonwealth’s 74 nations and territories.

The Malta 2027 Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday 29 October, followed by an action packed six day sport programme from Saturday 30 October to Thursday 4 November.

“This is a massive opportunity for our young squash athletes heading to Malta next year, for most their first experience of the magic of being part of an international multi-sport Games,” World Squash President Zena Wooldridge said.

“The whole experience will be inspiring and motivational for these players’ future development. On behalf of the Commonwealth squash community, thank you Malta and Gozo for hosting the event in your beautiful islands and thank you Commonwealth Sport for including squash in the programme. These are the kinds of opportunities that change young people’s lives in so many ways.”
